Gas Dryer Questions

I am considering replacing my electric dryer with a gas dryer and have some questions.

I already have natural gas in my house which is used for a furnace, stove and water heater.

1. My electric dryer was vented into the basement.
Does a gas dryer need to be vented outside?

2. Someone told me that gas dryers will cause white clothes to yellow.
Is there any truth to this?

Hello: w_axtell

Personally, never heard any truths on the issue of gas dryers causing white clothes to yellow. Plenty of rumors of all types floating around. If such where the case, gas dryers would not as popular as they are, if they yellowed white clothes.

Gas dryers need to be vented outside of the structure just like electric dryers should be. They both produce moistures, heat and steam.

Gas dryers must be vented outside of a living area or closed in area because of the fumes they produce only. A basement is a closed or semi closed area. Venting a gas dryer into a basement is not a wise idea and may not meet local code.

Local codes dictate and determine the exhausts location. Outdoors almost anywhere is fine. Uses the same vent hoods as electric dryers. Check with the local codes office in your area.
