Help With Gas Stove

Never used a gas stove or disconnected one. Need to move the stove to install linoleum. Pilot light is not lit. no burners or oven on. How to disconnect from gas line to move? Will we blow up the building because pilot light not lit. PLEASE POST REPLIES if you can provide any information. It is a Kenmore gas stove... of that matters.

Hello Michell. Welcome to my Gas Appliances topic and our Do-It-Yourself Web Site.

Chances are the appliance does not have pilot lights. More likely to have hot surface glow ignitors (HSI) and spark ignitors for the top burners. There is no mentioning about any of this in your post. Nor the age, fuel type (nat or propane) and brand name of the appliance, etc. Thus we have to make generic assumptions.

In the back of the appliance there should be a gas shut off valve. Turn it off first. If the isn't any shut off valve the main fuel supply must be shut off elsewhere but wherever the gas supply is it must be shut off first.

Disconnect the gas supply and unplug the electrical cord from the appliance. Move the appliance. If you have any doubts about exactly what needs to be done, in what order removing the appliance and reinstalling it, by all means inquire about it first hand from a pro or hire one.

If you need further assistance, use the reply button to add any and all additional information, etc. Any additional information you add will remain within this posting. Using this method also moves the topic back up to the top of the list automatically.
