Unhappy Tappon Gas Range Electrical Out

The other day when we turned the oven off, we heard a whoosh sound with a thud. The next day when we tried to use the stove, the burner igniters were out. Upon further inspection, I found the circuit breaker had been tripped and the oven didn't work either. Gas still flows at the burners, but it appears the electrical is totally out. The range is 13 years old. It is model number 30-2249-23/04. We have never had a problem with it. Is it serivceable or is it time to buy a new one?

Thank,
Steve

Hello: Steve. Welcome to my Gas Appliances topic and our Do-It-Yourself Web Site.

Electrical problems are always difficult to diagnose and more so in a text only format. such as this. The stove may have a short some where in the electrical system or within a componet. Rare instance when a stove blows an entire electrical circuit tripping a breaker.

You will need to inspect the wiring and the electrical componets to determine where the short is or likely to be. May be visable and may not be. Check all the wires, terminals and junction boxes, etc. Stove may even have a fuse box with an appliance only specially rated fuse.

Short may even be at the wall recepticule or the plug. Check everywhere but be sure the power is turned off and the appliance is also unpluged. Whether the appliance is repairable or not is not known nor could I determine such. That would have to be done by an onsite inspection. May have to call an appliance service agent or company whom works on that brand.

Retail appliance parts dealers can also help determine what the possible problem may be. Bring the make, model and serial numbers. Appliance part stores and dealers are listed in the phone book.
