Gas Dyer ran all, night now no heat

Problem started when my wife realized the dryer had run all night. The next morning the dryer would not heat up. First thing was to clean up the dryer and vent, no luck. Then I searched the forum and found similar problems. Since the dryer ran all-night could it be the dial/switch? I donít hear any clicking of solenoids, I am not getting 120V at the glow igniter and it does not glow.

Whirlpool Gas Dryer 12 years old, maybe time to replace?

Any advice would be appreciated
Greg

Hello Greg. Welcome to my Gas Appliances topic and our Do-It-Yourself Web Site.

Yes. The problem could be the timer. (dial/switch) Run the dryer in another cycle even though there is no heat. Note if the dial advances any. No advancement, may be a defective timer stuck in a cycle. Replace timer.

Could be the ignitor. I recommend you do this test first. Run the dryer in another cycle that heats and note the results. If the dryer gets warm, the ignitor is not burned out.

If the dryer does not get warm in that alternate cycle, the hot surface glow ignitor (HSI) is burned out. Replace HSI. (HSI is likely burned out, since there is current to the HSI)

Retail parts dealers and appliances parts stores can also help determine what the possible problem may be based upon that specific brand and model. Bring the make, model and serial numbers. Dealers and appliances parts stores are listed in the phone book.

Additional Suggestions:
Read the manufacturers online web site for product information, problem possibilities, causes, solving methods, part locations, disassembly, reassembly methods, repair procedures, pictorials, schematics, repair and or owners manuals which may be available online.

Cautionary Note:
Before attempting any repairs, be sure to unplug the appliance from the wall receptacle power source first.

Be sure the electrical power to the appliance is turned off, before attempting any repairs. Always check for gas leaks whenever moving the appliance and/or a repair includes any connection of a gas part.

Thanks

Ended up being the Thermal fuse, under $20 and fixed.

Got to love the Do it Yourself forum and the internet.
