Weber grill, bad regulator?
I have a 12 year old Spirit Barbecue grill Serial# PL5-39153.
Great condition.
I am using the "New Tanks"
It has the old regulator.
However heating is extremely erratic for anything except high/start. It's a little expensive to cook everything on high!!
This started about the time I had to switch to the new tanks, last fall.
if I turn it (once heated) from start to med it will go way down in temperature and sometimes shut off!
I know about the shut down, wait turn back on crap, that's not the problem.
Is this the old regulator?
A new one costs $35.00 !
Can I just cut the old regulator off and insert a new one with a barb type fitting (Brass) and clamp? A lot cheaper.

Hello: changeling.
I'm not sure which has the new tanks? You're referring to the bbq or the tank when you state

If the tank has it's own regulator and the bbq has one, remove one. Only need one regulator and not two regulators. The new regulator can be crimped onto the hose at the place of purchase. Best method to use.
May be a restriction(s) in the orifice(s) regulator(s) hosing, connections, controls, rusting burner(s) etc. causing a problem, based on the problem description. Look for such problems before suspecting a part(s) condition.

The regulator is part of the grill and hose. I have two tanks, both are the "New" kind.
There must have been something stuck some where, because it started working correctly a couple of days ago.
I am glad of that because a new regulator from weber was $35.00!!
