Question GE gas dryer:replace ignitor

How can I install a new ignitor in my GE gas dryer? It (ceramic) cracks every summer due to high humidity condensation while it cools down. Is there is way to prevent its recurrence?

Welcome madfilms to the Gas Appliances topic and the Do-It-Yourself Web Site.

To replace the ignitor, access the burner compartment, clean out the lint in the burner area and than turn off the gas supply valve on top of the gas supply pipe to the right side of the gas valve.

The nut on the gas valve to remove it from the gas supply pipe turns clock wise.

There will be small sheet metal screws used to secure the plate to which the burner assembly parts are attached to. The plate holds the entire assembly and is attached to the bottom of the dryers cabinet.

Next, remove the glow ignitor from the burner assembly. Or, take the entire assembled part to the local appliance retail parts store for a replacement ignitor.

Glow ignitors are fragile & break easily. Handle and install the new ignitor carefully. Glow ignitors are a non returnable and non refundable electric componet.

Appliance parts dealers test and carry replacement parts for all appliances. Parts dealers are listed in the phone book under appliances.
