Hi:maria

Since Magic Chef, like many other brands, uses several different types and combinations of oven pilots, depending on models, it may be difficult here to pin point the exact cause of the problem.

You state your ovens pilot goes out totally when the oven isn't used.

Assuming so, then the pilot must be ignited by a tiny glow coil, if it's an upper oven or a spark ignitor, if it's the lower oven.

If the pilot will not light, it must be clogged with something. If the sparker cannot light the pilot because the sparker is defective, it will need to be replaced.

If the pilot comes on but does not light the burner, then it's possible the safety element <called an ASO> that the pilot's flame heats up, is defective and it needs to be replaced.

There are many possibilities for the oven problem and many combinations of pilots and safety's used.

Therefore, if your sure all the controls on the control panel are set correctly, you may need to call an appliance repair agency for service. You may also ask if the gas utility company offers in home repair service. Many do.

Good Luck,
