Question

Is there an angle on the vent of a heating unit? I have never done this before & am concerned about the carbon monoxide issue. Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi:jdawdy

Not clear on what you mean by an angle on installing a vent. I assume your referring to angles in the vent piping and not on tricks or tips <angle as in slang> for installing.

The most important installation tips are not to reduce the vent size from the size of the vent tube on the furnaces built in exhaust vent.

Maintain the same diameter all the way to the roof vent cap. If you have to install any angle elbows, they also must be the diameter and use as few as necessary.

Keep the vent pipe as vertical as possible and be sure it's install it to code above the roof line with an approved vent cap.

Be sure to install a ceiling bucket wherever the vent pipe comes into contact with the ceiling and the attics roof. No part of the vent pipe can be in direct contact with either ceiling or roof material.

Stop in at your local city office or call them and obtain the local building codes for your area.

Once the installation is completed, it may be a good idea to contact your local gas supplier and request a final installation check and inital turn on of the unit.

Good Luck,
