Is there a line valve inside at dryer location?? If yes control gas from there. If no control gas from meter..However if at meter you may want to call your gas co for asistance

You will be better off calling in a professional.
What do you mean by "attach an adapter" what kind? What is it going to do?
The meter main belongs to the gas company if you turn it off you must check for leaks when you turn it back on. Also you may turn it on incorrectly and blow the diaframe in the regulator. Each appliance should have a shut off valve within 6 feet. =====[X]======{ }
