Downdraft - Jenn-Air Grill Cooktop

I am having a downdraft problem. I have a new Triple Bay Conventional Gas Prostyle Grill Cooktop. Model JGD8348CDP.

After grilling ONE STEAK.. my smoke alarms when off. (hurts the dogs ears)...anyway.. The cooktop is in an open area with 15 foot ceilings. The exhaust system runs from the cooktop 16 foot to an outside vent and two bends at the cooktop. It has been set on high and the ring was removed a few days ago trying to fix this problem. But the downdraft does not seem to have lots of power or suction. Any help?

Hello Palmilla. Welcome to my Gas Appliances topic and the Do-It-Yourself Web Site.

Kindly excuse the delay in posting back a reply. I tried to research the possible problem and/or cause. Nothing found. May be an installation problem or the exhaust hood baffle plate may not be working correctely. Not opening or opening fully.

If you can locate the exhaust vent, check the flapper or trap hinged door. May not be free moving and thus unable to open when the blower fan is on. Or the is some type of obstruction in the venting system.
