Propane regulator question

Last night I went out to use the propane grill and opened the valve on the cylinder. Immediately propane came out through the vent hole on the regulator, which I haven't noticed before. The leak through the vent quit when I turned on the knobs for the burners. We cooked indoors instead.

Is this a regulator problem? What's going on?

Thanks

The vent allows air into one side of the regulator diaphragm - there should be no propane here!!! What you describe sounds like the diaphragm has split or gotten a hole in it allowing propane to leak out. STOP USING THIS REGULATOR! It's a fire hazard! Go to the box store and buy replacement propane regulator.
