Kenmore Dryer with 2 problems

HI .. i don't know if these are related. But i seen to have 2 problems with my Knemore Elite gas dryer.
1. the dryer will turn on when the door is closed. normally i have to push the button. it seems like the button does not work any more.

2. the igniter will not glow. i also do not hear the relay click in that turns on the gas. I am guessing the the igniter might be waiting for the gas to turn on??..

these both happened at the same time. yesterday it worked and today it does not.

any help??

thanks
Paul

Hello Paul and Welcome into the Gas Appliances topic.

Lets work first on this problem first. No heat.

Very likely one of the two solenoids is defective. First solenoid (first click heard) turns on the glow igniter and also opens one of two gas solenoid valves.

Dryers use a redundant gas delivery system for gas delivery to the burner. That's why there is two solenoids and both have to operate.

If you do not hear the first click of the solenoid opening, likely the solenoids need to be replaced. Suggest doing this first. Instructions in the sticky note: here

Another possibility is the HSI (Hot Surface Igniter) is defective if it does not glow or the glow is to weak to ignite gas. Either will not let the burners gas valve open, thus no gas & no heat.

Door safety switch. Does it turn off the dryer when door is opened? If so, indicates proper operation. Does the switch allow dryer to operate with door open? If so, this is not a proper operation condition.
