maytag gas dryer, motor start
I have maytag ldg 7314aae gas dryer, I think motor shot! Nothing hangin up , motor hum slow start if at all, lessen load. Question, is there start up capacitor, or other control that would act as bad motor, don't know startup amps,startup draw. New motor about $125.00. Over 10 years old. Thanks for any help.

When you push the start button all you get is a humming sound? Try to hold door button in and have somebody push start button and try to turn drum. It runs than you need motor. No start capacitor on this type. Humming sound usually motor.

Hello stamo and Welcome into the Gas Appliances topic.
The motor does not have a starting capacitor but it does have starter windings. Which have likely burned out or are wearing out.
The dryer is experiencing the early symptoms of motor startup failure. Only solution is to replace the motor with one of equal horse power size and load capacity rating.
Not all that difficult of a repair once access is gained into the dryer cabinet. Be sure to make a hand drawing of how the belt loops over and around each pulley before removing the belt. You'll be glad you did when you have to reinstall it....
An excellent source for original replacement parts is your local retail appliance parts store or do it yourself suppliers and or vendors. Appliance parts dealers stock replacement parts for all appliances. Local parts dealers are listed in the phone book under appliances.
Retail appliance parts dealers can also help determine what the most likely possible problem may be. They will need the make, model and serial numbers. Appliance parts dealers are an excellent source for original replacement parts and problem resolving matters. Dealers are listed in the phone book under appliances.
Be sure the electrical power to the appliance is turned off, before attempting any repairs or services. Always check for gas leaks whenever moving the appliance and/or a service or repair includes any connection of a gas part.
DRYER SERVICE TIP:
It's always advisable to clean the entire exhaust venting system every 2 years. Or during any dryer maintenance, replacement and or repairs.

was the motor
Got new maytag motor,exact replacement, local store $137. . Down time minemal, easy fix. Learned that there is two speed, by way of centrifical clutch, did not know that. Which is all part of motor, well thoughtout. This will keep it alive few more years, I hope? Thanks for all the help, again.
