Maytag dg410 wont light on regular

Equipment: 1979 maytag dg410 gas dryer with electric igniter natural gas.
Maintance: some things that i have done to it reciently. put new motor and belt. i found out that the machine didnt shut off on both of the automatic dry settings and the motor ran to long and burnt the barings out. it was too hard to turn the shaft. once i replaced the motor and belt i cleaned out the entire dryer, not much to one, while i was cleaning i cleaned out he duct and the outside vent. boy she did great.

Problem: will not work on the automatic dry settings (perm. press and regular fabrics) they worked when i got it used, but one day that quit working. dont know what is wrong there. then most reciently it wouldnt light. well i was told by one of my wife's friends that a maintance man reset the braker four or five time and it magicly worked. so i unpluged the cord and i heard a click when i unpluged it (like a magnetic switch fall since it didnt have power, yes the selector was in the middle of an automatic cycle.) we use the automatic cycles since 60 min timer works but it doesnt dyr the cloths all the way, we might be overloading it i dont know. but while i was trying anything to get it to work i went from regular to delicate and tried that and it light up... delicate works regular doesnt the glow bar doesnt light up when in regular. i would assume that if the glow bar doesnt heat up it wont let gas out to start a flame so i am guessing that it is some sort of sensor. also i have this running on LP and it does fine the tag says NG but is there a way to tell if the orfice has been changed. what should the flame look like? or is there some markings that i should lookfor somewhere that it has been changed to LP. i know that the LP orfice should be a lot smaller than NG but that is about it.

Hello Argus33 and Welcome into the Gas Appliances topic.

Unfortunately, you've already put a lot of time and money into trying to fix such an old machine. Which should have been replaced many years ago. At this point and based upon what i read as a possible problem, the timer is most likely defective.

Problem is, a timer isn't going to be all the inexpensive based upon the age of the machine. But since you're already into the machine with the time and money already spent, two choices. Replace the timer and hope it resolves the problem or replace the machine with a new one. Best of the two choices I can determine to resolve the existing problem.

Retail appliance parts dealers can also help determine what the most likely possible problem may be. They will need the make, model and serial numbers. Appliance parts dealers are an excellent source for original replacement parts and problem resolving matters. Dealers are listed in the phone book under appliances.

would like to go ahead a fix this one

i know she might be old but she is working great... i know where i can get timers and all that... i am mechanicly inclined and i also used to be a electronic tech. so this is not that big of a deal i just dont have the tools any more and the most important thing is the schematics to know what controls what... i am shure since the glow bar glows on delicate cycle that the glow bar isnt bad. so if the timer is what controls everything then i will go and get one for 30 bucks and be done with it... time i have, ability i have, i just need someone that knows these things to so "oh its the flux capicator" go get one and replace it. so if a timer is what i need then i will go get one and fix this old beaut.
