New Stove: Required Break-In Period Has Strange Odors

I order a Kenmore 30 in. Gas Self-Clean Freestanding Range (Item# 02278531000 ; Model# 78531) from sears. Today, they came and delivered it and hooked it up. After reading some of the provided manuals it says something about leaving the oven on for 30mins at 400F to break in the oven. When i do this, the oven produces some strange odor as if something is burning inside the oven. Is this normal?

That is the reason for the break in period to burn off any thing that may have gotten on burner when moving it. If you think it is a gas smell do not run without getting checked out.
