I order a Kenmore 30 in. Gas Self-Clean Freestanding Range (Item# 02278531000 ; Model# 78531) from sears. Today, they came and delivered it and hooked it up. After reading some of the provided manuals it says something about leaving the oven on for 30mins at 400F to break in the oven. When i do this, the oven produces some strange odor as if something is burning inside the oven. Is this normal?

The tenants in my apartment building have been having a problem - every time they run their dryers, the smell of cigarette smoke is being blown into their apartment, and onto their clothes. It seems as though the smoky air from a few apartments is being transferred to the other apartments through the dryer intake. My question is: Is there any way to filter the air intake into the dryers so that this is not such a problem? A do-it-yourself solution would be ideal, but we would be open to the idea of hiring a contractor if that was what was necessary. I personally have a Frigidaire Affinity dryer, but everyone in the building has different brands/models. Thanks in advance!
