Maytag Oven Temperature Changing

The temperature is initially correct but, when the burner ignites for maintaining the heat it rises 53F above the set point. DW mentioned that when set to warm, the oven will initially go the correct temperature and then to 300F.

Since the maximum adjustment possible is +/-35F, there is no point in adjusting the temperature.

Setting the temperature low is OK for cooking but not for warming.

Would checking the control board for damaged capacitors be worthwhile?

Hello Froggyone. Welcome to the Gas Appliances topic.

I doubt checking the capacitors would be worthwhile. The temperature sensor element is likely damaged and now unable to accurately sense nor adjust temperature.

If it's possible to separate the sensor from the board and replace just that component, doing so is more likely to correct the condition. Asking what a Maytag service would do at a local parts and service appliance store would be advisable.

Retail parts dealers and appliances parts stores can determine what the possible problem may be based upon that specific brand and model. Bring the make, model and serial numbers. Dealers and appliances parts stores are listed in the phone book.

Cautionary Reminder Note:
Before attempting any repairs, be sure to unplug the appliance from the wall receptacle power source first.
