Unhappy kerosene smell in gas dryer

In September we had lots of work done in the house: new hardwood floors, painting, refinishing furniture. When we ran the gas dryer or turned on the gas oven, there was a terrible chemical, kerosene-like smell. An appliance repairman at Sears explained that the appliances were picking up the smell of the chemicals used in the work. He said all we could do was air out the house. After a couple of weeks of having the house open all day, the smell was still there. (When the windows are open, we don't notice the smell. But it's too cold now to keep things open.) A technician from our utility provider came out to the house and told us exactly what Sears said. Both men said it would take a few weeks. Well, two months later, the smell is just as strong. Where do we go now? Help, please!

Dryer take a lot of air in, an smell in the house or outside will enter dryer. Same answer you were given . Look for any open paint cans.

There are no open paint cans anywhere near the house. The only thing different in the house are the hardwood floors everywhere, but they've been there since September. And what about the oven? Does this make it dangerous/unhealthy to eat food cooked in the oven? There really isn't any smell when the windows are open, but it's way too chilly for that now. How long can this go on before the smell disappears?

Have no idea on how long, Depends on what was put on the floors, as to heath issues no idea.
