The door on my Kenmore dryer kept popping open. I replace the strike and catch with new ones, but the door stillpops open. Could there be some problem with hinges or alignment? Any suggestions would be appreciated. (I am presently keeping the door shut with heavy duty cardboard-the dryer is 7 years old and has been repaired once already so I am hesitant to have it serviced when it runs well. But, I am curious about what the problem could be).

Hello: Bbet

If the door gaskets are in place properly and you have already replaced the latch, then the hindges could be misaligned, bent or somehow damaged.

If the door just pops opened when the dryer isn't even running, check the above first.

If it pops open while running, the vent could be restricted and the airs back pressure may be pushing it opened. <This is highly unlikely but worth a check.>

All else fails and your handy, buy a medium sized eyelet and hook latch, drill small holes on the door and outer door frame and use pop rivets to install it.

Presto! A permanate door latch!

Good Luck
Tom
