kenmore stove - oven sputtering
I have a kenmore stove purchased new in 1998. I believe the model number is 75575. Just recently the oven started taking an enormous amount of time to preheat. I opened the oven door and can see that the oven flame is on but there is a sputtering sound. The sputtering sound is as if a burner is trying to ignite but something is preventing it. Question: does something need replacing or does something need cleaning? If so, what? Thanks in advance.`

Hello Mr. Crabtree. Welcome to the Gas Appliances topic.
First item to attend to is to replace the Hot Surface Glow Igniter.(HSI). Most likely it is not glowing hot enough to ignite the gas and the gas flow control valve is acting accordingly.
Second item to attend to is cleaning the entire burner assembly. Detailed info HERE: [url=http://forum.doityourself.com/showthread.php?t=159808]>HERE

Sharp Advice, I apologize for not getting back sooner. I haven't been able to use your advice yet since I injured my back. My wife grew impatient and tried to use the oven and it worked without the sputtering. I don't understand how it corrected itself. I'm thinking that there may have been some moisture in the burner.
