Whirlpool Gas Dryer Making Loud noises when starting and sometimes and more..

Well it's been going on for a few months now, but today while using the gas dryer, I had to get some shirts out of the dryer and then restart the dryer. When restarting, the starter noise in the motor sounded really loud and took like 10 seconds for it to start. This is not normal for this dryer. Dryer is believed to be about 12 years old. What does this mean when the dryer is sounding like this? It also is running louder too and takes longer for the clothes to dry.
