How air tight does a gas dryer vent need to be?

Installing a new gas dryer with a 4" semi rigid aluminum vent pipe between the dryer and my 4" stub sticking out from the wall. The pipe has two 90's on it. I notice that at the swivels and next to the clamps, there are small cracks and holes where air will escape. Should I use aluminum tape or mastic? Or does it really matter?

Aluminum tape

More important with gas but even with electric I wouldn't want that wet, lint-laden air going into my house at all
