I have a Maytag electric dryer model LDE8506ACE that makes a sound like a belt is frayed and whipping against something. I looked up how to remove the top, which is to use a couple of putty knives to press in clips and then pry the top off. No go. I can see a screw that holds the top to the side panel about an inch in from the left front corner.
How do I remove the top? The back doesn't look like it's one that comes off either.

unplug dryer first
Look at the lower front in the fold there are 2 screws there. Take out screws and the front will pull out and come off the top clips. The top has 2 screws that hold it down. To replace the belt you will have to take off the rest of front, 2 more panels. Before you take off belt be sure you look at the routing. 1st I did it took me 1/2 hour to get it right..
