Whirlpool oven will not turn on

My whirlpool oven will not ignite, the top burners work fine. I replaced the igniter for the oven. Then model number is sf216lxsm1.

The igniter and gas valve are in series with each other.

120 VAC-------Igniter------Gas Valve------120 VAC Neutral

When the thermostat is turned up and calling for heat, you should have 120 VAC between the "hot" 120VAC wire and the 120 VACNeutral wire if the thermostat is switching on that volatge.

See if that is happening.

If it is, disconnect the wires to the oven gas valve and check for continuity across that coil --- the gas valve may be burned out.

Measure the ohms across the gas valve too.

If you have a good igniter, you either aren't getting power from the thermostat or the oven gas valve is burned out. A bad wire from the thermostat could cause the no voltage condition.

I get 120 to the igniter and have continuity across the prongs. The ohms read around 19.2. How would I check the thermostat?

You should be geeting 120 VAC to the ignitor when the thermostat is turned up to call for heat --- that's what you are getting?

With the power off, take one of the wires off the oven gas valve and check for continuity to see if it is burned out.

Also, oven gas valves usually list the voltage needed to cause them to open. See if that value is listed on the valve.
