DIY dryer glide for GE

the dryer at my house gets alot of use, and burns through front dryer bearings quickly. they're available online for ~$17 for a 4-pack.
GE Dryer Drum Glide Kits : Appliance Parts from Midwest Appliance Parts, Appliance Part Service, Chicago, Water Filters, Appliance Parts Chicago

these dryer bearings are simply a strip of plastic with a hole, so it looks like something simple to make. I've tried these materials, but they are all too thin or brittle to hold up for long-
detergent bottles
tupperware containers

does anyone know of a cheap DIY alternative to buying pre-cut plastic strips?

Look into purchasing strips of UHMW plastic. It's available in strips that you can cut to length with a knife or hack saw and drill your mounting hole.

UHMW polyethylene, Teflon and nylon would be good choices. Which is best would depend on how much weight is concentrated on it. Poly & Teflon are soft & slick but scratch easily. Nylon is hard & tough but not as slippery. You can buy sheets or strips at any plastic supplier (some wholesalers in the Yellow Pages will sell over the counter). eBay is another good source for small quantities.
