Range burner doesn't light
I have an old Whirlpool counter top four-burner gas range - with a downdraft fan in the center. Only one of the burners does not ignite. It does not make the sparking noise at the appropriate dial setting. I have the burners exposed and don't see what needs to be repaired or replaced. Also, where is the product ID? Buried beneath the counter somewhere?

Hello John. Welcome to the Gas Appliances topic and the Do-It-Yourself Web Site.
If that one inoperative sparker does not work with the burner it is connected to, then the most likely cause (defective part) is the switch located on top of the valve stem. If the sparker does work (spark) when any other burner is tuned on, again, it's the switch. If the effected sparker does not ever spark regardless of which burner is being lighted, then the sparker itself is likely to be defective.
The ID plate most likely is in one of two locations. Under the top lid beneath the burners or may be attached to the underside of the counter top unit. Visible from looking under the unit inside the cabinet unit is installed in.
Retail appliance parts dealers can also help determine what the possible problem may be also. They will need the make, model an serial numbers. Appliance parts dealers are an excellent source for original replacement parts. Dealers are listed in the phone book under appliances.

"Be sure the electrical power and the gas supply to the appliance is turned off, before attempting any repairs. Always check for gas leaks whenever the appliance is moved and/or a repair includes any connection of a gas part."

I discover that the unit does light when the one to its rear is alight. I guess we can live with that. I've not found the ID plate as yet but will look further so I can finds the part I need.
Thanks for all your help.
