Post Kenmore Elite Gas Range Oven Temperature Keeps Going Up

I have an Kenmore Elite Gas Range Model 790.79423600. When we turn the oven on it will preheat to the set temperature. If we open the oven door and check on the food or for whatever reason the oven burner needs to turn back on, the oven will continue to heat past he desired temperature.

When we put a separate thermometer into the oven it appears that even when it goes to the first heat setting there is a difference between what the oven is set and what the thermometer reads. For example we set a thermometer at 350 degrees the oven will beat when its ready but the inside thermometer will be off by about 25 degrees. If the oven turns back it will go past 350 in the thermometer that we put in the oven.

Not sure what is going on and wanted to check before we called the repair person.

Thanks for any guidance.

Welcome to the forums.

If the temperature was wandering under what you had set it for would be one thing.
But since it's going over what you set it for that would most likely be a defective temperature sensor assembly. Not too hard to replace.

The FSP part number is 316490000. You can shop online for it or check at your local appliance parts retailer.

The link below is one online source for the part..... plus they have some excellent videos on replacing the part.
