tappan TGF657BFW slow to come to temp
36" tappan TGF657BFW takes forever to get to temp. ideas on causes, where to start troubleshooting?

You've left a number off the end of your model number.
The problem is most likely the igniter. As the igniter ages it weakens and draws less power which causes the gas valve to not always open. I would change it first. The following link is a similar igniter like yours.

When you order yours you'll need the complete model number and more than likely the serial number.
