Whirlpool Gas Drier Heat/No Heat
Hi everyone,
I have a problem with my Whirlpool Gas drier. When starting a cycle on timed dry high heat the ignitor glows for a few seconds, the heat sensor clicks and the gas ignites. So far so good. When the drier reaches operating temperature the flame extinguishes and from that point on will not ignite again, the ignitor will not glow again.
I ordered new Gas valve solenoids and installed them this morning and started the drier. Glow, click, ignite, extinguish, back to the drawing board. I was really hopeful that this was the answer. Parts ordered online take about 2 weeks to get to me so I may just buy new ignitor, coils and heat sensors just to have on hand.
Can anyone please push me in the right direction to resolve this, I need my drier working again, could I just have been sent bad coils? Any help would be appreciated.
Regards,
Chris.

Welcome to the forums.
Actually it's the flame sensor/gas valve you are hearing click just before the burner lights.
Your model number may not help us as you are not in this country and the appliance would be an international model.
However..... the Whirlpool gas drying system is pretty much the same on most machines. The circuit consists of two gas valves coils, a flame sensor and an igniter. That's the burner part of the equation. The other part of the equation is the heat selector control, timer, safety and cycling thermostats.
You'll find all the wiring for the burner.....right at the burner. The burner area is connected to the rest of the machine with a red and white wire. I check that red and white wire....if it stays hot (120vac) then the problem is in the burner area. If it goes off then it's before the burner assembly.
I have also seen intermittent connections with the plugs on the gas valves.

I just went to check on it to find a model number and the thing is working again which is confusing. I stopped the cycle which was hot by opening the door. Then When I shut the door and started the cycle, the burn started again, hmm intermittent my favorite faults.

1CWGD5200VQ1 Copied model # so we can copy and paste. Usual reason for your problem is bad gas coils, make sure the connections are good. Unplug and replug them in again.
