Two gas oven's not lighting

Two gas ovens in my rental homes will not ignite properly. At first, the gas would not come on at all. I troubleshot that down to two bad ignitors. I replaced the ignitors and now the gas comes out, but does not light. The ignitors (Norton 501A's) will glow and a few seconds later the gas ignites.

It takes me pretty much blowing on the gas towards the ignitor to get it going.

It's almost like the ignitor is not close enough to the burner. Is the open side of the ignitor supposed to face the burner, or the grilled portion?

Welcome to the forums.

There should be no way to install them backwards. Usually the open side faces the burner.

You may also check the holes in the burner that face the igniter. Make sure they aren't plugged with rust.

Thanks. I went back over and double checked everything. The original ignitor had brackets on both sides, but the new onlyhas one, so the open side cannot face the burner. I bent the bracket and got the ignitor pretty close to the burner and it now lights within 2-5 seconds of the gas turning on.

Think it's fixed now.
