I HAVE A WHIRPOOL GAS DRYER - IT STARTED SHUTTING OFF AND NOT TURNING BACK ON UNTIL IT COOLED? AND WHEN IT DID TURN BACK ON IT MADE A GRINDING NOISE AS IT SPUN. I LOOKED UNDERNEATH TO FIND A LOT OF LINT ALL OVER - SO I VACUUMED IT ALL AND NOW IT TURNS ON BUT DOESNT SPIN AND THE MOTOR HAS A BAD BURNING SMELL ! ANY SUGGESTIONS ??

Hi: STEVE

Your discription sounds like the motor is burned out. It will have to be removed and tested. If bad, it will need to be replaced.

The basic instructions for removal and replacement <R&R> can be found in the archives of this forum on the same topic.

Also consider the other parts like drum bearings, rollers, gliders and or pads which the drum rotates on could also be part of the problem. It these parts are excessively warn, they will put too much drum turning drag on the motor.
