Hi Tom and community,

I am just beginning to troubleshoot my Whirlpool gas dryer, which is not drying. I have checked the vent and it is clear. There is good air flow. I don't hear any indication of the "pilot" or flame.

My next step will be to remove the back and clean out any lint.

Any other things that I should check before getting out the volt meter?

Hi: Jim

Welcome to the forum and this web site. You have come to the correct place for the answer to your question.

Use the archives, within this forum, for answers to the problem your dryer is having. You'll find a wealth of information located here. Use the archives postings pertaining to this appliance and postings regarding glow coils, etc.

The first thing to check is the control panel selections. Be sure they are all set correctly. I suggest a timed cycle. Then try to verify if the glow coil glows at the starting of the first cycle.

Turn the dryer on and check the coil. If it fails to glow, most likely it is defective. {This is the time to check for current at the connection point for the glow coil.}
