What are the "spark plugs" called on a gas range?

Hi,
Our 20 year old range top would not spark anymore, so after testing, I replaced the spark module. Clearly the old one was dead and the new one clicks like crazy. The burners were still hard to light so I took out the two "spark plugs" and cleaned their surfaces and things got better for a week. Now, it's hit or miss whether we get sparks or not. My guess is, we need to replace the "plugs", but I don't know what they are called. Can you tell me?
Also, sometimes when the spark is there, we see a small flame at the end of the tube just outside the burner, but the burner doesn't light. Any ideas as to why the burner doesn't catch? The small hole to take gas in looks clear.
Thanks guys!

Those little spark plug like things are called igniters or igniter electrode. The one in the picture below is a common style. They're different in every brand appliance. If you need help locating them..... post your make and model number.
As far as the burner not lighting...it sounds like some of the ports on the burner are plugged. They are not always easy to see.

This is going to be a toughie. There are very few spare parts available for this older range.
The current or just past current part was listed as a Whirlpool replacement part but even that is no longer available. The OEM part # 0045598.
You could try contacting..........

Otherwise you'll need to check with companies that refurbish older stoves and ranges.

Is it really that crucial that it's the exact part? Don't they all essentially do the same thing?
Why Maytag?

Maytag is the parent company now of Modern Maid. You may be able to use other igniter electrodes but you'll need to match them by sight. The part number is of little help between different brands.
