Fixing up an old grill
So I just got a gas grill that is going to need a lot of fixing up. I plan to replace the tubes and plates, but I'm a bit stuck on one part. In the attached picture with the arrow, you can see that each tube burner should be resting on a ledge that was attached the main part of the grill. The second attachment includes the ledge (and all the rust and other stuff). It has basically crumbled, so the new burners don't have anything to keep them level. Any suggestions that wouldn't cost too much?

For the projected life of a grill, no. Stainless is expensive and steel will last as long as the grill will, most likely. Mine has been going for 3 years and I cook on it quite a bit.

Many of the replacement burners have feet already attached to them. When I did not retrofit, I splurged for a all brass burner so I would not have to change it out again.

Luckily I have a machine shop with a nice pile of scrap stainless steel lying around so I just scrounge and look for something appropriate. You could check with local welding or steel fabrication shops to see if they will allow you to pick through their scrap bin. If you catch them in a good mood and offer to pay they'll often let you take what you want for free.

Actually the bar I replaced, so I discovered, held up the flame preventers as shown in the picture. I see, now, my burners are going south, so I have to decide on 3 burners, flame preventers, and other repairs, OR a new grill. Which is cheaper?
