Gas oven flame flickering: slow pre-heat.

My gas oven (Maytag 8114P471-60) takes a long time to preheat and sputters/burps flame while doing so (i.e. it turns off suddenly, then comes back on with a puffing/popping sound), smelling of gas the whole time. The ignitor glows yellow, and oven flame is solid blue. The oven now makes a humming sound, like a fan, which it did not used to make. Does this sounds like a case of a weak ignitor? If so, how do I test the ignitor to be sure? I have a multimeter. Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forums..... Fixit mom.

I moved your thread to the gas appliance forum.
Can you double check the model number.... I'm getting conflicting results.

From what you describe.... the flame sensor needs replacing. It should glow bright white in order to be working correctly.

A regular voltmeter can be used to check it. You'd need to use a clamp on ampmeter. (ammeter)
