Replacing the gas range igniter
The lower igniter went out and I bought the right part to install. I wanted to get feedback concerning the wiring. The igniter I purchased as seen in the first photo has a connector that I need to cut to install. My question based on the second photo from my range, does the wire with the connector which I will be cutting connect to the nut labeled 1 or nut labeled 2. Thanks

Polarity doesn't matter on these. Connect it either way. If the lead is long enough to reach the control without cutting the terminal off, do that, otherwise cut, strip, and use the wire nuts. Best to use the ceramic wire nuts supplied with the igniter rather than the plastic ones.

Great, thanks for the reply. I initially installed it and first test worked fine, then turned off gas and closed the range door and tried again but this time it was like a large pop sound. I turned the oven off and gas line and then when I opened the door I smelled gas. It seems that the igniter was slightly distant from the gas burner which caused an accumulation of gas, after bending it back slightly closer it appears to work appropriately now.

Sometimes the igniters come with a universal type base and needs a little custom bending.
