The main reason that bottles are stored upright and typically used upright is because LP is a liquid and needs a vapor space on top. (wetting area) It is also -44 degress F. Besides being extremely flamable it is a problem to control at -44 being so cold. In home use or wherever you have to leave a vapor space on top of container for the gas to be made. When you pull out any amount of vapor on top the producy (liquid) boils to replace the amount pulled off of top. Hence frost and vapor lines in cold or cool weather. At -44 propane will not burn (make vapor) and is kinda like water in a sense. Also in vapor applications you sure dont want liquid propane in the vapor space of a bottle or container. It does a number on valves etc. One word of advice don't let people fill to bottles or any container more than 90% full and lower in hot weather. Most all small bottles have a spit gauge on them that will spit out liquid at 85-90%. It is usually a small regular scredriver slot recessed on valve .......
