Spark module in a gas range question
Our daughter has a Sears Kenmore free standing gas range. The oven will not light and she smells gas when she tried it. The surface burners all light.
Is the spark module the likely culprit? Does the spark module control all starters in the range to include the surface burners and the oven?
Thanks!

Most ovens use a hot surface igniter.
If she sees a glow but the oven won't light..... replace the igniter.
You can post the model number for further help.
It will look like xxx.xxxxxxxxx and will usually be found by pulling out the drawer and looking around the frame.

I found the diagram for that range and agree it's probably the oven igniter. We'll get one of those on order.
Thanks again, PJ.

In the "burner parts" tab..... #26 is the oven burner. It looks like #28 is supposed to be the oven igniter but it's listed as a screw. There are two burners.... bake and broil. Each one has its own igniter. Part #218 is shown in the diagram as the broiler igniter. That range probably uses two of the same igniters which is pretty common.
OEM part # WB13K21 igniter. If you do order one.... confirm it's the bake igniter.
You can use that part number to search for online retailers.

The igniter and gas valve are in series. When the circuit is powered with 120v..... the igniter starts glowing. When it reaches white hot it starts drawing over 3A of current. That current in the circuit is what opens the gas safety valve. If it only glows orange.... it doesn't draw enough current and the valve only opens a small bit. That's why it won't light but you smell gas.
