GE Monogram cooktop igniter problems

Hello, first time poster. I appreciate in advance your help with my problem.

I have two separate igniter issues. First, when turning the middle knob, the middle igniter won't stop firing after it is lit. See video: https://1drv.ms/v/s!Au7QDgT9SW37gySI2vPCXqAnsqEg

Second, the lower right burner will sometimes flicker when off. See video: https://1drv.ms/v/s!Au7QDgT9SW37gyO3hGuGMoMYA43y

The remaining burners work perfectly.

Any ideas as to what I need to replace? I was thinking of replacing the Harness Wire Switch.

Model number is: ZGU385NSM2SS

Thanks again.

Welcome to the forums.

Have you cleaned the stove or gotten it wet ? Many times water gets into the switches.
If you haven't.... then the switch is defective. Sometimes you can replace just the defective one and sometimes they come as an assembly...... like yours.

I don't know what the issue is with the light in the knob.
What does that light signify ?

It may have gotten wet, but that was the first solution I found a few months ago when this started happening. I made sure to clean it well and let it dry. Still happens though.

I'm going to replace the Harness and see if it helps. If not I'll but the more expensive Switch Module and see if that works.

The spark problem is caused by the switch.

So replacing the harness wire switch will fix it?

Just replaced the harness switch and it changed nothing, still have the problem. I'm going to change the module next and see what happens.

That doesn't make sense. When the burners are all turned off it stops ?

I didn't see you had posted the model number. That uses a re-ignition module. It won't stop sparking because it's not sensing the flame. If it's only happening on that one burner..... the igniter needs to be cleaned or the burner. The igniter must be in the flame to sense it.

Yes, when the middle knob is off it stops sparking. I had a feeling the igniter worked by sensing the flame but I didn't know what to call it, re-ignition!

So the igniter looks pristine, I might get a new one just to be sure though.

Is the re-ignition module the same thing as the spark module? This part? https://www.tribles.com/parts/GE_WB13T10076

Yes..... one in the same.
Can you see the flame actually hitting the igniter ?
The flame actually forms a path from the igniter to ground.

Yep, I can see the flame hitting the igniter. It seems to be hitting it appropriately when I compare it to the other burners. I'll take a video when I get home.

Maybe I'll try changing the igniter from a different burner and seeing if it fixes the problem.

So here's a close up video of the problem with the middle burner. You can see the special flame that is directed towards the igniter seems to be appropriate.

Tonight I changed igniters from a different burner and the problem persists. I think the source is worth the spark module. I will replace it and see what happens.

Yes..... your next step would be to replace the module. It contains circuitry that senses the flame.
If you buy it from an online parts distributor...... most offer a 365 day parts return warranty if the part is not needed. Appliance Parts Pros and Repair Clinic are two of the biggies.
