Are there any concerns about installing black iron pipe underground for appearances? Connecting off existing exterior heating unit above ground and wanting to run 8 feet distance away at 6-8 inches below ground for tripping hazard and better appearances. Ducane gas BBQ grill mounted to concrete patio. Location is moderate climate in Nashville TN.

Hello and Welcome LANEJW to the Do It Yourself Web Site and thanks for posting a question in my Gas Appliance forum.

Check with the local building and safety department within your town for codes and rules. Based on the discription you posted, it should be fine. However, keep in mind I am not a licsenced plumber.

The pipe you should be using isn't black iron pipe. Corrosion will distroy it quickly. What you need is known as GREEN pipe. It's iron pipe with a kind of like Teflon coating.

Check within the archives of this forum for a posting regarding this topic. There are several important things to know about the correct, handling, assembling and installing of this type pipe.
