Dear doiteers,
I found myself this morning with the (very literal) headache of a gas leak. Smell led me to the oven of my old stove. I removed the main pipe from the oven valve, applied soap to the valve exit, and it bubbles slowly alright. I don't ever use the oven, so I don't care for replacing the valve. So...
1. What easy ways to seal it can I do by myself? I don't mind messing the pipe in the process.
2. The pilot exit from the valve lets out A LOT of gas, is that normal? I know it has a safety valve on the igniter, and it seems to be working (no bubbles on the pilot), but shouldn't the main valve close both pipes?
Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forums.
Pretty old stove if it has a standing pilot for the oven.
Is that pilot always lit or do you have to light it when you use the oven ?
Pretty hard to comment on disconnecting/blocking off the gas valve without a make and model or some pictures..... How-to-insert-pictures

That looked like a link for a google account. If it was.... it was set to private..... not public.

It was just a pic, hotlinked from Google Photos with the -no-tmp.jpg trick. Perhaps they forbid that now, tho it seems to work in a different browswer. I'll upload it here anyway:

You should be able to use flare fitting caps. The link is to show you what they look like.
The home improvement stores should carry them.
