Question Downdraft fan not working on Thermador gas stove

I recently bought a house that has an older Thermador gas stove. This is the kind that has the "downdraft" exhaust system. When I looked at the house, I was fairly certain this worked, but it no longer does. The exhaust snorkle will extend, but turnining the fan on does nothing.

Is this something I can repair myself, or do I need to have someone service it?

Thanks,

-john

Hello John. Welcome to my Gas Appliances forum.

This may be something you can do yourself.
Be sure to turn off the electrical power first.

If the fan is operating but there isn't any suction, something is blocking the exhaust system. It could be a stuck closed baffle, restricted filter, venting duct and or the exterior exhaust vent hood.

If the fan fails to operate, check for a faulty electrical power switch and or an inoperative electric fan motor. If the motor appears to be the problem, check your local phone book for electrical motor repair shops.

Retail parts dealers can also help determine what the possible problem may be. Bring the make, model and serial numbers if you stop in at the store.

Regards & Good Luck
