Question hooking up gas range

I am going to hook up my gas range (Fridgidare) myself. I have the connectors and flex, but have two concerns. The pipe coming out of the floor is gold in color, has a male connector already on it that does not look like it comes off, and there is some paint on the rim of said connector from when the original owners of the house painted the walls and did not cover the pipe. 1) Is the paint on the edge going to cause any problems with sealing? 2) Is this pipe okay to connect to? Have only had the house for one month, don't want to blow it up yet .

Thanks for your help.

Question More Information Requested

Welcome legemeaux to my Gas Appliances forum and the Do-It-Yourself Web Site.

I'm not totally sure but I think the gold colored pipe may be the adaptor from the old appliance connector left on the pipe. The old connector may still be connected to the adaptor, if I understand your description.

The questions to you are:
Is this a USA installation?...YES or NO?
Is the gas supply pipe iron or steel?
Is the old stove still connected?...YES or NO?
Is there a shutoff valve on the iron or steel pipe? YES or NO?

The paint on the connector nut or adaptor can be removed with a wire brush.

Here are the answers:

Is this a USA installation?...YES
Is the gas supply pipe iron or steel? Iron I think
Is the old stove still connected?...NO
Is there a shutoff valve on the iron or steel pipe? YES

I also don't know if any paint got inside the pipe. Is that a concern?

Thought this would be pretty simple, but starting reading "how-to's" and they start to make you worry (are all "how-to's" written by installation professionals who want you to freak out and just hire them )
