Fireplace Problem

Spark, no flame
My gas fireplace ignites but, upon release, there is no flame. What is the pen-like device wired to the gas fireplace?

I'll need more information on the type of appliance in the fireplace.
Is this a decorative gas log set?
Release of What?...Pilot reset button?
Which flames?......Burner or pilot flame?
Pen like device?....What does this do?.....Where is it located?
