Question oven door panel

I just removed my wifes range top from storage and we were going to use it in the house we just baught but the door was damaged by water. The rest of the stove is in perfect shape after a good cleaning but the rust on the oven door is bad. I took the door apart and seperated the panel from the glass/insalation. I've asked alot of people about the finish on the panel and they just tell me to replace it..... I found the part on line but it was 109.99 which is more then the whole oven is worth, I no I can go out and buy a used stove for that much and be done with it...BUT my wife is sentimental about that stove her later father baught it for her, and me begining her handman and all I'm suppose to fix it or find out how i can repair it...Is there anything a cusumer can buy to paint, or refinish the exposed surface to the oven? I was told that I could sand blast it an have a local auto shop paint it with a high heat paint but that would be trickey because of the food...they siad it may stink up my kitchen and if thats the case I don't want to do that. I saw a guy on tv that restores old stove even re enamels so why cant i find something to repair that stupid panel? The rust isn't through the panel so I hope i can find something to repiar it.... thnks james

Hello jimbo2. Welcome to my Gas Appliances forum.

Have you priced stoves lately? The sentimental valve has merit too. You just may have to choose between the two choices.

Matching colors may also be a problem. The appliance isn't just spray painted. The surface is baked on enamel. Check the appliance refurbishing shops in town for ideas and repainting costs.

Hello: jimbo2

The inside finish material is porcelain coating baked onto metal.
If the inside has a black bumpy coating applied to it, that surface is also applied and baked on. That coating, I do not remember the name of. It is an oil and grease absorbing surface coating.

You may not have luck attempting to redo either the inside or outside refinishing. Both finishes are applied and baked on.

Sorry. I do not have any further info to pass onto you.

Regards & Good Luck
