Oven wont light without electricity

Can an Tappan gas range with electric ignition be ignited with a geneerator and continue to operate several hours if the electricity is shut off ? We are planning to use this range outdoors at a camp in the mountains. The burners do burn when ignited with a match. The oven will not light (no pilots ) We would like to use the oven for roasting meat and bajing pies. Is there any way we can utilize this oven ? Any modification or add ons ?

Hello: Mullin

The answer to this question is no. Ovens cycle the burner on and off to maintain the temperature you select at the thermostat. Therefore, the stove must have a constant supply of electrical power during the entire baking process.

Using a generator to supply the electrical power, the generator would have to remain running until the baking process is completed.

Running a generator so the oven can bake isn't so bad since you can also be using some of it's power using another electrical appliance during the baking process.

There is no other means of using the oven without electrical power and there are no conversions available to convert the oven to a lite manually or have a pilot flame instead of an electric ignition.
