fan motor prematurely shuts off while ac is running

Our central air conitioning unit will be running just fine and then the fan shuts off before it reaches the desired temperature. You must go and push the button that starts the fan motor. It will not start on its own anymore, the air conitioning starts but the fan won/t as soon as you push the button the fan starts and then runs approsimately half an hour and then shuts off again before desired temperature is reached, and then we must restart it again. Please help, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, our unit is about 4 years old

Are you refering to the indoor fan that circulates air thru the ducting or the fan motor on the outdoor unit? Where is the button? Is it on the end bell of the motor?

The fan running is the fan on the furnace. In order to get it started you have to press the relay switch that will automatically start the fan. The switch that the thermostat is connected to on the side of the furnace. Thanks for your help.
