constant clicking noise
I have a Carrier gas furnace and when I put the thermostat on Auto, there is a continual clicking and thumping noise heard from the furnace. This happens even when the Heat/Cool setting is switched to off.
Switching the fan to on stops the clicking.
Is it the blower motor? And if so, is it a big problem or one I can live with for a while?

Weird. I don't think it's the blower because it would happen with the fan switch in On also. Do you have a programmable or other type electronic t-stat? If so, I'm wondering if enough voltage is leaking thru to chatter the blower relay? You may have to look inside the furnace while it's happening to get an idea. If it stops when you take the cover off the blower section, look around for a switch that's depressed when the cover is on. Most modern furnaces have a blower door switch.
