Covering our furnace

We want to close off our furnace from view of the rest of the basement. We were thinking of curtains or a movable partition that I could build.

Can someone please tell me what a safe distance would be to keep away from the furnace?

Does anyone have any ideas of something inexpensive to do or something you have done?

Thanks,

Martin

Do you have an older furnace or a newer one with two pipes going outside? IOW- how does your furnace get its' air supply for combustion? You don't want to block off any air supply without making some other provision.

It is a brand new Trane. It has two pipes that go to the outside of our house.

Thanks,

your furnace

gets it's combustion air from outdoors, where one of the two pipes terminates. the other is the flue. check the data plate on the unit for clearance to combustibles. how about hanging a bambbo blind in front of it, if you do not want to frame in and hang a door?
