clogged ac filters

my ac filters (2 filters 2 units of about 2 tons each 8-10 years old dont know the SEER)were completely clogged with about 1/4" of solid dirt/lint and appeared that they had not been changed in years if my electric bill is now about $350 month could I possibly expect a 40 - 50 dollar decrease in monthly elect. usage. Also could there be increased cooling differential with clean filters if i was only getting about 12 degrees?

If the filters were that dirty, it's a good bet that the cooling coil and blower are also filthy. Usually with dirty filters/coil/blower causing reduced air flow, the temperature differential increases and not decreases. IOW- the supply air comes out real cold. Don't be surprised if you get everything cleaned up and find out you have other problems like maybe an inefficient compressor. I have no idea how to predict the electrical savings.
